Following numerous sexual assaults a porn star was admitted to a mental hospital

USA: Adult movie legend After a judge determined that Ron Jeremy, real name Ron Hyatt, was unable to stand trial for dozens of sexual assault allegations, he was committed to a mental hospital in California on Tuesday. According to a spokesman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, he could be detained there for up to two years.

The porn star's attorney, Stuart Goldfarb, told the Associated Press that the decision by Superior Court Judge Ronald Harris last month that Jeremy was incompetent to assist in his own defence left him disappointed that "due to [his] mental condition he [would] not go to trial and have the opportunity to clear his name"

After considering the evidence provided by the prosecution and the actor's defence, the judge concluded that Jeremy is in "incurable cognitive decline," indicating that he is unlikely to make a full recovery. He will nevertheless undergo routine examinations to track his health, with the first one set for May.

In 2020, the 'the Hedgehog' actor, who has starred in over 2,000 movies, was detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting four women. Numerous additional women came forward after learning of his arrest, alleging that Jeremy had sexually assaulted them when they were as young as 15 or as old as 51. Over the course of more than two decades, the alleged incidents allegedly occurred in the Los Angeles region, with many of them occurring at the same West Hollywood bar where he allegedly cornered his victims in the restroom.

In addition to the 34 similar charges Jeremy was already facing, 30 additional sexual assault counts of various types were added to the list in 2021. Women who claim Jeremy assaulted them have also sued him in civil court. He entered a not guilty plea to each charge.

Jeremy could have spent up to 250 years in prison for the crimes he was accused of, but he won't go to trial until his mental capacity has been determined to be restored. The deputy district attorney for Los Angeles has acknowledged his prognosis is "not good," despite the district attorney's office reportedly keeping that possibility open.
