On Thursday morning in Sillanathanam village in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district, four women were killed after the passenger van collided with a water tanker lorry. G. Selvaranai (48), Santhiya (48), Jothi (40), and Manimeghalai (20) were workers of a home decor firm.

According to police, the van was transporting 17 female employees of a home decor firm when it collided with a water truck. According to sources, the collision was caused by the van driver's rash driving, as he tried to transport the women to the firm before 6.30 a.m. when attendance punching starts.

A total of 13 female workers in the vehicle were injured, in addition to the four who died. The van and lorry drivers were also hurt, bringing the total number of those injured in the collision to 15. The four women's bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the family.

Police from Puthiyamathur rushed to the site to conduct rescue operations and transport the injured to hospitals. The remains were recovered from the van, which was extensively damaged, with the assistance of police and locals. Locals and police broke the van open and sent people trapped inside to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College hospital.
