Slovenia:: The Freedom Movement (FM), a new center-left party, won a landslide victory in Slovenia's general election, beating Prime Minister Janez Jansa's center-right Slovenian Democratic Party. On Sunday, the results of Slovenia's general election were released.

According to the preliminary results from the State Election Commission, FM, led by Robert Golob, earned 34.53 percent of the vote and will hold 41 out of 90 members in parliament, the greatest number of seats held by any party since Slovenia's independence in 1991.

The Slovenian Democratic Party received 23.54 percent of the vote and 27 seats. Only three other parties made it through the 4% threshold for parliament, compared to nine four years earlier. Thus, the parliament will have the fewest parties since Slovenia's independence.

The turnout was the greatest since 2000, at 69.69 percent, up from 52.6 percent four years ago. "The highest turnout tells it is all.  It expresses people's desire for change and their faith in our ability to bring about such changes,” said Golob, who addressed his party virtually.

"Let's not forget that trust breeds expectations, which in turn breeds our obligation. Let's dance tonight, but tomorrow is a new day, and we'll have to work hard to earn that trust "he added.
