Jammu: The weather has changed once again on Saturday, due to light snowfall in the high mountain areas of Jammu and Kashmir division and rain in the plains, the temperature has increased and the cold has increased. At the same time, due to the continuation of snowfall on Jawahar Tunnel and landslides on the highway at many places in Ramban district, the Jammu Srinagar National Highway closed after noon. With this, more than 1500 vehicles were stopped midway.

The Meteorological Department says that according to the spokesman of the traffic police, no vehicle will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar and from Srinagar to Jammu on Saturday. However, if the highway is open, the stranded vehicles will first be diverted to the destination. Due to fresh snowfall and rain, the temperature in most of the districts of the state has come down. The minimum temperature in all the districts of Kashmir division has gone to minus. The minimum temperature was minus 2.6 in Srinagar, minus 4.1 in Pahalgam and minus 6.5 degree Celsius in Gulmarg.

From today onwards, Chillay Kalan will increase for the winter: For your information, let us tell you that Chillay Kalan has started in Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday (December 21). It will last 40 days. During this time, due to increasing winter, the water sources also get frozen. However, in view of this, adequate storage of food grains and other essential materials has been done. The severe winter in Kashmir starts from December 21 and lasts till January 31. This is called Chilai Kalan. During this period, mercury remains in the minus. Ice accumulates in the water pipes along Dal Lake. During Chillay Kalan, local people are already stored along with food grains like coal, Kangri and wood for Bukhari to protect them from the cold.
