Jaipur: In a major setback to the Gehlot government, the Jaipur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Friday stopped the release of the results of the Constable Recruitment Examination-2019. This decision was given by a bench of Judge Sanjeev Prakash Sharma while hearing the petition of Zaheer Ahmed, a resident of Sikar. The court has issued notice to the Director-General of Police, Inspector General of Police (Recruitment), asking them to respond.

Petitioner Zaheer Ahmed's lawyer Ajaj Nabi said that in this petition, the process of issuing district wise merit of Constable Recruitment Examination was challenged. It was said that the same merit list of the whole of Rajasthan should be released. On this, the High Court ruled to stop the release of exam results. He said that in Rule No. 25 of Rajasthan Police Subordinate Service Rules-1989, there is a provision that only one joint merit will be made in police recruitment in the state.

He said that the DGP Rajasthan had also issued its standing order. There was a provision to create joint merit in Rajasthan Police recruitment. Currently, Rajasthan Police Headquarters make district wise merit. Beyond the rules, the basis of district-wise merit has been considered as prevalent. He said that in the year 2013 police constable recruitment 49.50%, 74% of Sikar district and 71% of Dausa district were selected on the basis of merit. This recruitment was against the Constitution and the Rajasthan Police Subordinate Services Rules.
