New Delhi: The old system has resumed temporarily after the death of the country's first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat  in a helicopter crash. Let me tell all of you that before the post of CDS came up, there used to be a Chief of Staff Committee in the country. Army Chief General MM Narwane  has been appointed as chairman of the Chief of Staff Committee after the death of General Bipin Rawat. Let me tell all of you that before the cds post came up, it was the Chief of Staff Committee that worked as a coordination between the three services.

The committee consists of the three Army Chiefs as General MM Narwane is the senior most, so he has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee. Sources said, "The same system will remain until the new CDS is appointed. At the same time, an official said that in the absence of CDS, the senior chief takes over as chairman of the Chief of Staff Committee. Let me tell all of you that the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff of the Chief sofa Committee who used to report to the CDS will now report to General MM Narwane. The Chief of Defence Staff also heads the Department of Military Affairs and is the Permanent Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. The second most senior officer in the Department of Military Affairs is the Additional Secretary. The additional secretary in this department is a three-star military officer, now held by Lt Gen Anil Puri.

Let me tell you that the Chief of Defence Staff has the power to have administrative issues of the three Services. When cds was first appointed in the country in 2019, the government issued a statement stating, "CDS will be the chief advisor to the Defence Minister on the issue of the three services. However, the chiefs of the three services will advise on matters relating to their services. CDS cannot give military command. '
