Geothermal power generation plant to be built in 3,000 square yards of land: SCCL

Kothagudem: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology and Union Ministry of Coal has entered into geothermal power generation on pilot basis at Pagideru village of Khammam district in Manuguru coal belt area at a cost of Rs 1.72 crore.

SCCL chairman N Sridhar, in a meeting with representatives of the executive agency, Shriram Institute of Industrial Research, had set a target of completing the project by March 2022. The Union Ministry has given its approval for the execution of a geothermal power plant to generate 20 kW of electricity and released Rs 1.72 crore. The plant will be built in 3,000 square yards of land. The SCCL chief said that the project work and power generation should be started by March 2022. The officials had also visited the project site and conducted necessary studies for the execution of the project.

Presently, the farmers of the village are using the water for agricultural works, washing clothes and other purposes. Even after the completion of the geothermal power project, local people can normally use the recycled water for their needs. Sridhar said that the completion of the pilot project of the Geothermal Power Project at Manuguru will help the government to take up similar projects across the country where hot steam is generated and geothermal power is generated at low cost.
