Google is set to change how group travel is navigated with a new feature for Google Maps, as revealed in a recent patent application. This innovation aims to help users traveling in multiple cars coordinate their journeys to shared destinations, making group travel more efficient and enjoyable. Google Maps, already a leading navigation app, continues to evolve with features that cater to both solo travelers and groups.

The patent, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office on June 25 and highlighted by @xleaks7, introduces a feature called “Providing Navigation Instructions to One Device in View of Another Device." This will allow people starting from different locations to travel to a common destination within a similar timeframe.

The system will use users' calendar schedules and messages to determine their travel plans. If it detects multiple users heading to the same place, it will send invitations for multi-car navigation, providing synchronized directions to everyone involved.

Users can also manually request multi-car navigation while planning their trips. The system will show the locations of all travelers on the map, highlight shared routes, and suggest meeting points. Additionally, it could recommend speed adjustments to help keep the group together.

The navigation service will relay traffic and road condition data to all vehicles in the group using information from the lead vehicle's journey. If any vehicle deviates from the planned route, notifications will be sent, and suggested stops will be communicated to help others catch up.

This feature is expected to work on smartphones and devices connected to a car's infotainment system via USB or Bluetooth, making it a versatile tool for coordinated travel.

As Google Maps continues to innovate, this new feature highlights the company's dedication to enhancing user experiences and addressing the diverse needs of its global user base.
