Surat: Jail administration's hands and feet swelled at Lajpore Jail in Surat City, Gujarat, when a prisoner serving a sentence suddenly deteriorated and died while undergoing treatment at a civil hospital. It is being told that the jail administration had admitted him to the hospital after becoming ill. The family has accused the prison inmate of the death due to the assault.

Family members said that the prisoner was about to be released from prison on February 3, leading to his death a day earlier. According to the information, Aslam Ismail Chaki, a 32-year-old accused of assault in Kutch-Bhuj, was imprisoned in Lajpore Jail. A prisoner serving a sentence of three months in Lajpore jail suddenly worsened on Tuesday. He was brought to the Civil Hospital for treatment, where he died.

As soon as the news of Aslam's death came, the whole family came to Surat. The family said that on Saturday, during a phone conversation with the brother, Aslam told that he had a scuffle with a drug accused in jail. After this fight, there was severe pain in his arms and legs. The family had demanded for a forensic post-mortem, saying that Aslam died not from illness but due to beating. The police in its primary report is giving the cause of death as an illness.
