Ahmedabad: The Gujarat legislative assembly is set to start its monsoon session on August 21, according to an official announcement made earlier. The session, expected to last for three days, has yet to have its full agenda and duration officially detailed.
Governor Acharya Devvrat has convened the fifth session of the 15th Gujarat assembly, starting from August 21. This announcement comes shortly after Congress legislature party leader Amit Chavda urged the Speaker to ensure the session occurs on schedule. Chavda highlighted that it will be six months by the end of August since the last session, which was held in February.
In his video statement, Chavda stressed that, according to constitutional norms, assembly sessions should occur every six months. He emphasized the importance of holding the session on time so that citizens' concerns can be addressed in the assembly. The Congress MLA noted that the assembly should be used to raise pressing issues through starred questions, which require oral answers during the Question Hour, and unstarred questions, which receive written responses from ministers.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintains a strong majority with 161 seats in the 182-member assembly.
