Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has given the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) the last chance to file a counter-affidavit in 10 days on the condition of depositing a fine of Rs 10,000 in the Gyanvapi dispute. This damage will have to be deposited in the High Court Legal Services Committee till the next hearing. The court has expressed displeasure over not filing the affidavit even after giving time.

This order was given by Justice Prakash Padia on Tuesday while hearing a petition filed by Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid Committee. The court has already stayed the Varanasi court's order to conduct an archaeological survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex till October 31. An affidavit was sought from the ASI director. Out of the total 5 petitions, the hearing on three petitions which have become meaningless has been completed on September 12. Hearing on the remaining two petitions is going on. Out of which one petition has been filed by Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid Committee and the other petition has been filed by UP Sunni Central Waqf Board.

Let us tell you that last year, the district court of Varanasi had ordered a survey of the disputed premises by ASI. On September 28, the court had given two weeks to file the reply. ASGI Shashi Prakash Singh and Central Government lawyer Manoj Kumar Singh sought six weeks' time from the court. In the interest of justice, the court has given time on the condition of depositing the fine.
