Government to procure 83 Tejas light combat aircraft, seals deal in ₹48,000 crore

New Delhi: India is fast becoming self-sufficient in the field of defense. With the start of the Aero Indio show in Bengaluru today, the defense deal of Tejas Fighter Jet has been formally done. This deal of 83 Tejas aircraft has been fixed for 48 thousand crores. On Tuesday, the Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the second production unit of the indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas in Bengaluru itself.

With the commissioning of this unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the work of delivering 83 Tejas aircraft to the Airforce will also start at double the speed. This domestic defense deal related to these Tejas aircraft has been formally decided today. On the occasion of the start of the Aero India Show 2021 in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, R.L. Contract handover to Madhavan. This formality of the deal was completed in the presence of the Defense Minister.

The CCS i.e. Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, approved this deal last month. Under this deal, HAL will produce 73 Tejas Mk-IA and 10 LCA i.e. Light Combat Aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
