NEW DELHI: Massive security forces have been deployed in the Jahangirpuri area of New Delhi to deal with any untoward incident on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti today, April 6. The Police in the National capityal on Wednesday also conducted a flag march in the area.

Initially, the police opposed granting authorization for any parade in the region, but eventually changed their minds.

"The Jahangirpuri Hanuman Janmotsav festival is being regulated in cooperation with the organisers. We're making sure everything happens in a secure environment, "said Deependra Pathak, special commissioner of police for law and order.

Once the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) stated its desire to organise a procession for Hanuman Jayanti in the area, the police also formalised the route.

A senior police official responded to VHP's request by saying: "We looked into their request and after shortening the route, we regularised it. Enough security will be placed in the district to preserve the law and order situation." During a parade held to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti in Jahangirpuri in April of last year, racial tensions flared up.

At least 8 police personnel and a civilian sustained injuries in the violence.

The altercations were triggered by stone-throwing while a procession was moving through a mosque area.

All states have been requested by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to maintain law and order during the Hanuman Jayanti.

The states and Union territories were advised by the MHA to alert law enforcement authorities and keep an eye out for anything that would jeopardise social harmony and peace.

"During Hanuman Jayanti, the MHA has issued a warning to all the states. The governments are urged to maintain law and order, promote a peaceful holiday, and keep an eye out for anything that could jeopardise social cohesion "In a tweet on Wednesday, the office of the home minister said.
