Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to sedition accused Mohammad Niaz. He was imprisoned in the jail since 27 October 2021. Mohammad Niaz is accused of posting Pakistan flag on Facebook. But the court said that the applicant is entitled to bail in view of the facts and circumstances. This order was given by a single bench of Justice Om Prakash Tripathi.

According to the report, a case of sedition was registered against Niyaz at Faizganj Behta police station in Badaun district. A case was registered against Niyaz on the complaint of a person named Puneet Kumar. It was alleged that Niaz had written 'I love you Pakistan, I miss you Pakistan' while sharing a picture of Pakistani flag from his Facebook ID. It is alleged that by doing so, he tried to create social distancing in the country. A case was registered against Niyaz under section 124A (sedition) of IPC.

Niyaz's lawyer said that he is innocent and he has been deliberately implicated. He is a laborer and never tried to create any kind of social unrest. He said that the applicant will not indulge in such anti-national activity in future also. He has no criminal history. Along with this, he also said that he will not misuse the bail. According to the report, the Additional Public Prosecutor opposed the bail, but did not object to the arguments of Niyaz's lawyer. In view of this, the court granted him bail.
