The Delhi High Court asked the government how a small plant can replace a large trees being cut down. The court said that cutting out 16,500 trees to build the proposed multi-storey residential building in six colonies of South Delhi is like leaving the city to die.

The court has stopped the authorities from cutting trees till July 26, which is the next date of hearing on a petition filed in this regard. The court asked if there was an environmental impact assessment before starting the work.

Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar The bench of the party said that if Delhi needs to break them (buildings), they will be broken. But, you can not leave the city to die in such a way. The court also asked why there is a need to give place to everyone in Delhi when there is so much vacant land in the national capital.

Taking cognizance of the plea of lack of ground water in Delhi, the court asked the Center and the Government of Delhi how they would irrigate the plants, which have to be replaced in place of big trees under the compensatory afforestation policy. The Bench said that the Delhi government should explain how small plants can equate with a big tree? How long will it take to grow a small plant and become a tree?

The court said that Delhi used to be famous for its population of birds, but today the situation has become different. The bench said, "Where will you find the water for such eight-storeyed buildings? How much of the waste will come out? Where are the parking places and what is air pollution? You do not use the brain while planning."

It is also the view of the court that the two major hospitals located in the area will block the construction of ambulances and patients going to AIIMS and Safdarjung. "The traffic jam will take place at the main gate of the colonies, how will people reach the AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital? You must have done the environmental impact assessment," said the court.
