Dehradun: The Gurudwara Management Committee has stopped 1,000 pilgrims on their way to Hemkund on Tuesday due to snowfall in Hemkund Sahib for the past several days. On Wednesday, the pilgrims will be sent to Hemkund Sahib as the weather improves.

Hemkund Sahib has experienced snowfall in the month of June after 20 years. Senior Manager of Govindghat Gurudwara said that Hemkund Sahib experienced snowfall in the wee hours of Monday night and Tuesday, which has frozen fresh snow up to one feet. In view of this, only limited pilgrims are being sent to Hemkund. About 5,000 pilgrims were sent to Hemkund Sahib on Tuesday while one thousand pilgrims have been stopped in Ghangaria.

According to the information received, the pilgrims who were stopped on Wednesday will also be sent to Hemkund when the weather is normal. He said Hemkund has experienced snowfall in the month of June after 20 years. In 1999, there was snowfall on 17th June. The monsoon has already arrived in the entire country.
