Visakhapatnam: The High Court has given a big shock to the Jaganmohan Reddy government of YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh. State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar, who was removed from the post by issuing an ordinance, has been reinstated by the court. Earlier, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government of Andhra had changed the 'Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act' to reduce the term of SEC i.e. State Election Commissioner from five years to three years.

N Ramesh Kumar's term ended on 10 April 2020 under a new change. In his place, retired Judge V Kanagaraj was made the new Election Commissioner (SEC) of the state. Actually, there was a dispute between the state government and Ramesh Kumar for months. State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar had asked to postpone the precautionary local body elections, citing the spread of the corona virus, after which the controversy escalated.

The state's YSR Congress Party government expressed displeasure over Ramesh Kumar's decision and accused him of acting at the behest of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP). After which, by issuing an ordinance, the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 was amended. However, the court has now repealed this amendment.
