High Court notice to Gehlot government in case of burning priest alive

Jaipur: The High Court has issued a notice to the state government seeking a reply by October 23 in connection with the burning of a priest in Karauli, Rajasthan. A PIL was filed in the case, complaining about the rescue of the accused along with a demand to protect the family. On October 23, the Solicitor General has been asked to appear before the Rajasthan High Court in the case.

It may be noted that in the land dispute, the rioters had handed over the priest Babulal Vaishnava to burnt alive by spraying petrol. Babulal Vaishnava, who is more than 80% burned, passed away at Sawai Madho Singh Hospital in Jaipur during treatment. The priest's family and villagers refused the funeral and protested against justice, 50 lakh compensation and a member demanding a job.

Six days after the murder of priest Babulal Vaishnava, the Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) had started investigating the case. CBCID's team visited Bukna village and inspected the incident. CBCID is headed by Superintendent of Police Vikas Sharma.
