As the changed rumor about elevation of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress president, Smriti Irani, the Union HRD Minister said such development will bring 'acche din' for BJP.

She asked about speculations about Rahul at an interviews, she said, "It is achche din for us."

Also,about the JNU controversy she said, “"In 2009, there was a lathicharge. How come there was no Rahul Gandhi in JNU then?”

"If a college or university thinks it has a law-and-order challenge, should I say you call police at your political convenience? It is the decision of the administration, which has nothing to do with the government of India. There have been challenges in JNU before," Smriti said.

Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Congress chief had said, “the time is right for Rahul to take over the mantle of the party from his mother and also favoured Priyanka's entry into active politics.”
