Srinagar: For the first time in the country, a large stock of lithium has been found in the Reasi district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first site of lithium reserves that the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has discovered in the Reasi district. As of now, lithium used in batteries for devices such as electric vehicles and mobile phones is sourced from other countries. It is believed that after getting its reserves in the Reasi district, the country's dependence on imports will be reduced.

According to the report, for the first time, the Geological Survey of India has installed lithium estimated resources of 5.9 million tonnes in the Salal-Hamana area of the Reasi district of the state. Lithium is an indescribable metal used to make rechargeable batteries for mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras, and electric vehicles. Along with this, it is also used in making toys and watches. At present, India is completely dependent on other countries for lithium.

Mines Secretary Vivek Bhardwaj has informed that 'For the first time in the country, lithium reserves have been found in Reasi of Jammu and Kashmir.' He said, 'Whether it is mobile phones or solar panels, important minerals are needed everywhere. To become self-sufficient, it is very important for the country to find and process important minerals.'
