Kochi: Police in Kerala's Kannur have arrested a couple with drugs worth crores of rupees. The MDMA drugs found in the possession of the couple are said to be worth more than 1.5 crores in the international market. Giving information in this regard, police said that the accused Balkis and her husband Afzal are residents of Mujapilangad.

In addition to 1950 grams of MDMA drugs, 67 grams of brown sugar and 7.5 grams of opium were recovered from the duo. Police said the couple was arrested on the basis of secret information. Acting on a tip-off, police launched a search of vehicles at Kannur Plaza Junction and as soon as a bus coming from Bengaluru was checked, drugs were recovered from the couple. They had hidden drugs in a bag of clothes. Police have arrested both of them and are being interrogated further.

Earlier too, the Kerala Police had caught a doctor of Thrissur Medical College with drugs. Drugs such as MDMA and LSD tickets were recovered from the doctor. According to the Medical College police, the accused, Dr Aqeel Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Kozhikode district, was involved in the consumption and sale of drugs.
