Thiruvananthapuram: An IAS officer Sriram Venkataraman was arrested in Kerala on Saturday. He was arrested in connection with the death of a journalist. In fact, IAS officer Sriram Venkataraman is alleged to have hit a journalist's motorcycle in his drunken car. Police said the arrest took place about 17 hours after the incident. The IAS officer was arrested under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code (driving recklessly) and 304 (punishment for non-intentional murder).

The 33-year-old official was appointed survey director by the state cabinet on Thursday. "We arrested Venkataraman in the hospital. We have booked them under Sections 279 and 304 of the IPC. IGP and Police Commissioner of Thiruvananthapuram city Dhinendra Kashyap said that the officer has been booked for non-bailable offence and could face up to 10 years in jail.

Venkataraman is a doctor and he has been a talented medical student. He allegedly drove recklessly to the malayalam newspaper 'Siraj' of the bureau chief. Mohammed Bashir (35) was hit in a motorcycle. At that time, the journalists were returning home from work. Bashir's family has a wife and two children. The IAS officer returned to the state recently after taking a Masters degree at Harvard University in the United States. On the other hand, Kerala CM Pinarai Vijayan said that his government will do everything possible to bring bashir's death to justice.
