Hero of India's World Cup triumph in 2011, Gautam Gambhir has picked Australia as his favourites to win the upcoming 2019 World Cup. Former Indian opener is hoping for a fiercely competitive tournament in England and Wales this summer.
Australia have named a formidable squad for the World Cup and have a great mix of youth and experience. With the returns of Steve Smith and David Warner, Australia are looking like a dangerous team heading into the showpiece event as they look to successfully defend their title. Speaking to Times of India, Gambhir said tha Australia is his first favourite. He said, “ They should definitely play the final and their opposition in the final will be between two of my joint second-favourite teams, England and India.”
Gautam Gambhir further added "Not because England are playing at home. Of late they are an improved side, having quality cricketers in almost all the positions.”
Warner and Smith will be returning to the international fold after the completion of their 1-year ban. The duo was banned by Cricket Australia last year after being found guilty of ball-tampering in a Test match against South Africa.
