If you are also not happy with the existing power service provider, you will soon have the right to choose the power supply to your desired power company other than the old company. It will work just as if you are unhappy with the service of a telecom company and you port it to another telecom company.

Bill may be introduced in monsoon session:-
Energy and Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh has said that the government is likely to introduce Electricity Amendment Bill in the monsoon session beginning July 2021. If this happens, it will be a major reform in the power distribution sector, which will give a big boost to the customers. In January, a proposal for Electricity Amendment Bill 2021 was issued for the approval of the Cabinet.

We have proposed to delicense its distribution as in power generation. A note was issued by the Cabinet which has been approved by all the Ministries but there are one or two questions of the Law Ministry. He said it will be sent soon for the approval of the Cabinet and an attempt may have been made to introduce it and pass it in the next session of Parliament. The monsoon session is likely to begin from July 19 and continue till August 13.

More service providers will have the option:-
With the introduction of this Bill, the way will be opened for private companies to come into the field of power distribution, as the need for obtaining licences will be eliminated, it will also increase competition. This will directly benefit power consumers as they will have many service providers to choose from. At present, only a few government and private companies are dominating the power distribution sector.
