IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Warning for Four Districts in Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for four districts in Tamil Nadu. Over the next 24 hours, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts are expected to experience heavy rain at isolated locations, along with moderate rain accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning across many areas within these districts.

IMD data reveals that Chennai Nungambakkam has received 5.88 cm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Chennai Meenambakkam recorded 7.12 cm. The city witnessed substantial rainfall as a well-defined low-pressure system transformed into a depression over the southeast, bordering the Southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday.

Anticipating a cyclonic storm's arrival between Chennai and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh along the South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast by December 4 evening, IMD has forecasted this event.

In Tiruvallur, heavy rainfall persisted, particularly in coastal areas like Palaverkadu, Ponneri, Gummidipoondi, Periyapalayam, and Sholavaram since Saturday morning, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai.

Amid these weather conditions, Tiruvallur Collector Prabhushankar visited an NDRF camp to apprise personnel of the potential impact of Cyclone Michaung and the state's readiness to handle it.
