A 30-year-old Dalit woman in Ernakulam district of Kerala was brutally raped and murdered at her residence on April 28 with the sheer brutality of the crime evoking memories of the 2012 Delhi gang rape.
It was her mother who found her. Reportedly, there were at least 30 stab wounds on her body and her intestines were pulled out using a sharp-edged weapon.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has promised strict action against under attack from the opposition which complained of delayed investigation in the case.
Even though, Kerala home minister said all angles, including the involvement of workers from other states are being looked into, police have hinted that the crime could have been committed by locals. Permubavoor, an industrial town in Ernakulam district has a large migrant labour population.
With polling just two weeks away, leaders across the political spectrum are busy criss-crossing the state in their bid to galvanize voters in an election widely termed to be too close to call.
