Income Tax Raids Target Hyderabad Restaurant Linked to YS Sharmila's Relative

Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department recently conducted raids on a well-known restaurant located in Hyderabad, stirring considerable attention due to its ownership by a relative of Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief, YS Sharmila Reddy. The targeted establishment, Chutneys, renowned for its breakfast offerings, is owned by Atluri Padma, whose daughter is married to Raja Reddy, the son of YS Sharmila.

This series of raids has caused a stir within business circles, largely because of Chutneys' widespread popularity as a dining destination and the political affiliations of its proprietor. Despite the significant interest generated by these events, neither the management of Chutneys nor officials from the Income Tax Department have issued an official statement regarding the purpose or outcome of the raids.

These developments are occurring in the context of the impending Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled for May 13, the Lok Sabha polls will coincide with elections for the 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly, with the subsequent vote counting set for June 4.

Interestingly, while the Congress and BJP have yet to disclose their respective candidate lists for Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena Party—both allies of the National Democratic Alliance—finalized their seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming elections on March 11. This timing adds an extra layer of political intrigue to the situation, given the proximity of the raids to the electoral process.
