DUBAI: Following the annual update that removes results from the 2019–20 season and takes into account all series played since May 2020, India has surpassed Australia to reclaim the top spot in the ICC men's Test team rankings.

India's rating points increased from 119 to 121 as a result of the elimination of their 2-0 loss to New Zealand in March 2020 from the rankings, which rate series concluded before May 2022 at 50% and subsequent series at 100%.

In December 2021, India last held the top spot for a whole month.

Australia's rating dropped from 122 to 116 rating points as a result of the elimination of their home series victories over Pakistan (2-0) and New Zealand (3-0) in 2019–20, and a halving to 50% of the weighting of their 4-0 victory over England in 2021–22.

Australia has been the top-ranked Test team since January 2022 and will face India in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final at The Oval on June 7. With a 4-0 series victory over England, they surpassed New Zealand and took over the top spot.

The difference between England and the second-placed team has decreased from 13 to two rating points as a result of recent steady play and the weighting of their 4-0 Ashes loss and 1-0 West Indies loss. England are still in third place.

The other ranks are also identical, except Zimbabwe, which is now in 10th place, has improved five rating points. Ireland and Afghanistan have not yet participated in enough Test matches to be included in the rankings.

India has solidified their leadership in the men's T20I team standings, expanding their advantage over England in second place from six to eight points. To move up to third place, New Zealand passed South Africa and Pakistan.

On May 10, following the current Pakistan-New Zealand series, the annual update to the ODI team rankings will take place.
