The first match of the three-match ODI series which was played between India and West Indies at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Indian team lost by 8 wickets in this match and the West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. In this match, West Indies team captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and choose to bowl. The Indian team scored 287 runs in the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs on the basis of half centuries of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

West Indies innings, Hetmyer and Shai Hope's century
Chasing the winning target, the first wicket of the West Indies innings fell to just 11 runs. Deepak Chahar dismissed the team's opener batsman Ambris by LBW for 9 runs. Hetmyer played an amazing innings for his team and scored his 5th century of ODI career. He scored 139 runs from 106 balls and was caught by Shreyas Iyer by Shami's ball. Hetmyer shared a 218-run partnership with Hope for the second wicket. Shai Hope scored the 8th century of his ODI career and this was his 2nd century in ODIs against India. Shai Hope remained not out on 102 runs while Nicholas Puran scored an unbeaten 29 runs.

Indian innings, Iyer and Pant hit half-century
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came to the ground to start the innings for India. Both scored 21 runs in 6.1 overs, but KL Rahul was out on the second ball of the same over. KL Rahul scored 6 runs in 15 balls, caught by Hetmyer off Sheldon Cottrell's ball. On the last ball of the 7th over of the innings, Sheldon Cottrell clearly bowled Indian captain Virat Kohli for 4 runs. The ball hit Virat's bat and went straight to the stumps. The Indian team completed 50 runs in 12.1 overs.

All-rounder Shivam Dubey, who performed well domestically, made his debut in T20 International cricket and made his ODI debut against the West Indies on Sunday.
