MUMBAI: On Thursday, the Ministry of Defence announced that the Indian Coast Guard effectively carried out a medical evacuation operation for a Chinese national within the waters of the Arabian Sea.

The Indian Coast Guard successfully executed a mid-sea medical rescue of a Chinese citizen off the coast of Mumbai. On Thursday, the Indian Coast Guard effectively conducted the evacuation of a Chinese individual from a research vessel flying the Panama flag in the Arabian Sea. This operation took place during the night amidst challenging weather circumstances.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, "The Indian Coast Guard has effectively carried out a medical evacuation of a Chinese national from the research vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, registered under the Panama flag. The vessel was situated approximately 200 km off the coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea on the night between 16th and 17th August."

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received a distress call indicating that a crew member named Yin Weigyang on the research vessel had experienced a cardiac event and urgently needed medical assistance. Contact was established with the vessel, which was on its way from China to the United Arab Emirates, and vital telemedicine guidance was provided.

After assessing the available options for a rapid evacuation and subsequent medical care, the patient was lifted by an Advanced Light Helicopter MK-III. Initial first aid was administered during the airlift. The patient was then handed over to the vessel's representative for further medical attention.

The Ministry of Defence further stated that this swift and efficient operation led to the successful rescue of a foreign national's life at sea. This accomplishment underlines the Indian Coast Guard's unwavering commitment to their motto: "We Protect."
