Beijing: India's Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar held bilateral talks with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan in Beijing on Monday. This is Foreign Minister Jaishankar's first visit to China since assuming office. The Visit of the External Affairs Minister is seen as of significant importance in the face of heavier tensions with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also visited China after the withdrawal of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
After lunch, the foreign ministers of the two countries also released a statement in the media after inaugurating the India-China Media Forum. Jaishankar will now co-chair the India-China High-Level Meeting (HLM). The HLM meeting will promote greater coordination between the two nations in areas such as tourism, art, films, media, culture and sports. At the same time, culture can prove to be a better source of exchange.
Before External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited China, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar termed China as an important partner of India. He said many bilateral issues with China have to be discussed.
