According to the Justice Department and media sources, a man of Indian descent was sentenced to 15 months in jail after being found guilty of sexually abusing a 16-year-old kid who photographed the attack on a plane.

Acting prosecutor Charles J. Kovats said on Friday that Neeraj Chopra, 41, was sentenced in federal court in Minneapolis by Judge Nancy E. Brasel. He was found guilty of the April 2019 incident in July, but only this month was he jailed. Chopra allegedly used a blanket to cover his lap and the teen's right leg and "began inappropriately touching the victim" while on the flight from Boston to Minneapolis, according to authorities. 

"Chopra continued to inappropriately touch the victim despite the victim's repeated demands to stop," prosecutors said. According to legal papers, the victim was a boy who had requested Chopra to stop harassing him and, when the abuse continued,  he took pictures of the assault, which were later used as evidence in court.

The victim's elder brother, who was sat on the row in front of him, saw his brother weep and informed their father, who exchanged seats with the victim.  When Chopra's plane arrived in Minneapolis, he was welcomed by law enforcement. Chopra "confessed to touching the boy improperly, but said it was because he was asleep and experiencing a bad dream about a family member being slain," according to the publication.
