India's 'Mission Sagar II' carrying 270 MT food aid to 4 African countries reached Sudan

The Indian Naval ship INS Airavat carrying 100 tonnes of food for the Sudan an African nation arrived at Port Sudan on Monday. The Indian Naval ship INS Airavat and the support comes when India has reached out to aid the most aid seeking four African countries amid COVID-19 pandemic, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea are those four countries.

Together India has sent 270 MT tonnes of food support to all the four countries. It comprises 155 MT of wheat flour, 65 MT of rice and 50 MT of sugar. INS Airavat will make port calls at Mombasa, Massawa and Djibouti later. This mission involved multiple streams including Indian Navy, the ministries of Defence and External Affairs. An official release from the Navy said that the mission is in "line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region ‘SAGAR’ and highlights the importance accorded by India to relations with her maritime neighbours and further strengthens the existing bond".

"Mission Sagar-II" is the name given to this aid-mission, earlier India has launched ‘Mission Sagar’ during the May-June period to provide food and medical aid to five countries in the Indian ocean to deal with the impact of the pandemic. The countries benefited by Mission Sagar were Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros, and provided food aid and medicines.
