The importance of this temple can be gauged from the fact that lakhs of devotees reach here every year for Chhatra and Chhath fast in Kartik month. There is a belief about this famous temple with unprecedented architecture that it was built by Lord Vishwakarma himself. The structure of the temple built of black and brown stones matches the Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha.

According to an inscription outside the temple about the construction of the temple, after the Treta Yuga passed 12 lakh 16 thousand years ago, Ila Putra Ail started the construction of this God Sun Temple. The inscription shows that more than one lakh fifty thousand years have passed since the construction period of this mythological temple. In this temple, the carved stone statues of the sun from seven chariots are present in its three forms - Udayachal, Madhyachal and Asthachala Surya.
