Srinagar: The release of Omar Abdullah of the two former CM National Conferences of the state, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP who are in custody after the abrogation of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, is yet to be announced. They will remain in police custody for a few more days. A senior official made it clear that any decision regarding the release of the detained leaders as a precautionary measure will depend on the opinion of the local administration and the situation there.

The official said, it is very difficult to say when the detained leaders will be released. He indicated that there is no hurry in the matter. Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been detained at separate guest houses in Srinagar, while former CM Dr. Singh has been detained. Farooq Abdullah is under house arrest. Leaders of other political parties have also been detained at the guest house.

The state administration has not disclosed the number of leaders to be detained since August 5. Based on the estimate, the number is reported to be more than two thousand. The Government's move is also being criticised. The case was also taken to court but the court has refused to issue any guidelines to the government in this regard. The court has asked the government to give more time.
