Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, stated on Sunday that the decision on holding Assembly polls in the Union territory rests entirely with the Election Commission of India (ECI) after the completion of the delimitation exercise and revision of electoral rolls. During an interaction with journalists in Srinagar, Sinha emphasized that the J-K administration will abide by the ECI's decision. He also highlighted that more than 32,000 elected representatives from various local bodies are actively involved in the decision-making process in the Union territory.

Sinha mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had given assurance in Parliament that assembly polls would follow the delimitation process and that Jammu and Kashmir would regain its statehood at an appropriate time, as reported by PTI.

Taking a veiled dig at the Opposition parties advocating for immediate polls, Sinha remarked that if those who have held constitutional positions and have been members of Parliament do not comprehend the constitutional process, there is no solution to their concerns.

Regarding the abrogation of Article 370, which marked four years on August 5, the Lieutenant Governor expressed that the era of separatists and terrorist organizations disrupting life in the Valley has become a thing of the past. He highlighted that development and peace have been the focal points for the region over the last four years.
