New Delhi: Padma Awards have been announced on the eve of Republic Day. The Padma Vibhushan award has been announced to 7 personalities including former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe. 10 dignitaries including former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan and former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will be conferred the Padma Bhushan award. 102 personalities who have excelled in the country in various fields will be honoured with the Padma Shri.

A statement issued by the Home Ministry said that late singers S P Balasubramanian, Dr Belle Monappa Hegde, Narinder Singh Kapany in science and engineering sector, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, B.B. Lal, Sudarshan Sahoo have also been conferred the Padma Vibhushan. The second-largest civilian honour in the country. Krishna Nair Shantakumari Chitra (Art), Tarun Gogoi (public service), Chandrashekhar Kambar (literature and education), former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, former CM Keshubhai Patel of Gujarat, Kalbe Sadiq, Rajnikant Devidas Schroeder, Tarlochan Singh will be honoured with the Padma Bhushan award.

There are 29 women in the Padma awardees this year. Of these, 10 people are from foreign, overseas Indians, PIO and OCI and one person from the transgender category. The Padma awards have been conferred posthumously to 16 persons.
