Patna: Though proposals were passed at the GDU's National Council meeting in Patna in Bihar on several other issues including conducting an ethnic census, the most talked-about statement spelled out by JDU leaders to Nitish as prime minister's material. However, the JDU leaders now seem to be trapped in the statement themselves. CM Nitish is also said to be upset over the statement.

Senior JDU leader and former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha had also described Nitish Kumar as prime ministerial and said that no one knows what will happen in the future. Senior JDU leader KC Tyagi also made a statement describing Nitish Kumar as prime minister material but also said that NDA PM is Narendra Modi. CM Nitish Kumar also had to clarify his stand when it came to differences in NDA over the statement.

A JDU leader, who is on condition of anonymity, says Nitish Kumar himself is upset with the statement. According to sources, the JDU was pressurizing the BJP on the issue of the census on ethnic grounds, but after the Prime Minister's material, the issue of caste census was suppressed. Kushwaha, who has fuelled the statement, has also maintained silence over the statement.
