Reliance Industries  Limited (RIL) is tweaking its handset retail strategy by tying up with offline stores to offer Jio SIM-locked devices, as it prepares for the JioPhone Next launch, people privy to the matter said. The move comes even as Reliance is signing reverse handset bundling partnerships with a slew of companies such as Vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, HMD Global and iTel, among others, for Jio SIM-locked phones.

As part of its new strategy Reliance is tying up with offline retailers to install its Jio Mini point devices. According to the report, only those devices can offer handsets with Jio lock-in, which offer special discounts and various other bundled services.

Reliance will also start installing displays in these offline retail stores which can then be used to offer product demos and to increase the subscriber base. Through the process, retailers will also earn a commission. Jio will also work towards a similar online-offline channel strategy for its JioPhone Next which is set to launch on September 10. The report cited sources that the Jio Exclusive bundled smartphones could extend their price range to mid and premium segment smartphones in the coming months
