Karnataka Congress demands- release financial package for people affected by lockdown

Bangalore: The Karnataka Congress on Thursday requested the Yeddyurappa government in the state to announce a financial package for those whose livelihoodhas been affected by the lockdown imposed due to covid-19. In Karnataka, the main opposition Congress has also demanded that the Centre should bear the full cost of vaccination and the state government will have to put pressure on it.

State Congress unit president D K Shivakumar said, "We demand that rs 10,000 be provided to each family (bpl) , the price of fertilizer should be reduced, the farmers who grow vegetables and flowers should get compensation, who have suffered. Financial packages should be given to artists and others whose livelihoods have been affected by lockdown.

Talking to media here, he said that a financial package should be given, a meeting of bankers should be convened and interest waiver should be announced. He said, if this is not done, suicides will increase and the Government will be responsible for it. He said the Karnataka government has imposed a complete lockdown from May 10 to May 24 amid the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the state. Shivakumar requested the state government to put pressure on the Centre to bear the cost of the vaccine and give it free of cost to the people.
