BENGALURU: On February 8, the Karnataka High Court will hear petitions filed by students at the Government Pre-University College for Girls in Udupi, seeking permission to attend classes while wearing the 'hijab.'

Prabhuling K. Navadagi, the advocate-general who had been served with an advance copy of the plea, requested time. The hearing was adjourned on Thursday by a bench led by Justice Krishna S. Dixit, who considered the motion.

The petitioners claim that the college administration has denied them the right to attend classes only because they wear hijab. They've also asked the court to issue orders to the government not to infringe on their religious and basic rights. They stated that wearing the hijab is a requirement of their religion.

In their petition, the kids also stated that they wore hijab in addition to their uniform. The petitioners claimed that they were humiliated by the Principal, Vice Principal, and professors because they wore hijab.

They went on to say that on December 28, 2021,'students who follow the Islamic religion and wear the hijab were barred admittance into the college.' According to the petition, their class teacher has not allowed them to sit in class since the last week of December 2021, and they have been asked to bring their parents. When the parents arrived, the college officials refused to meet them and made them wait for the entire day, according to the petitioner. Two applications have been filed with the High Court by the students.
