DEHRA DUN:   Kedarnath Dham's portals will be closed on Saturday morning for the winter season. The doors of the eleventh Jyotirlinga Lord Kedarnath were shut for the winter as per rituals with chanting of Vedic hymns accompanied by music played by local musical instruments, the tunes of the army band, and cheers of scores of devotees.

Devdolis would leave for Pandukeshwar on Sunday, an official said. The Kedarnath Dham's portals were also shut for the winter season in late October.

The Jyotirlinga Lord Kedarnath's doors were ceremonially closed for the winter while Vedic hymns were chanted, local musical instruments performed, the army band played, and cheers from a large number of worshippers.
Tradition holds that after the portals are closed, Lord Kedarnath becomes stern for six months during the Himalayan winter for the sake of humanity.

The two shrines' gates often stay closed for six months during the winter before opening again.

The Chardham Yatra started this year on Akshaya Tritiya, May 3, and the Kedarnath Temple's doors opened on May 6.
Previously, on October 26, the sanctum sanctorum of Kedarnath Dham was decorated with gold. The walls and ceiling of the sanctum sanctorum were given a new look with 550 gold layers.
