Kerala seems to be regaining control of the situation of daily cases of Covid-19 and test positivity rates in the third week of January according to the figures published by the State Government in the past one week. On January 24, Kerala recorded a test positivity rate (Positive cases per 100 tests) of 12.8 pc, the highest in one-and-a-half months. But as of Wednesday's figures, the Test positivity rate is 10.66 with 6356 positive cases in 59,635 samples.

In Kottayam, the TPR jumped from 10.5 pc to 14.1 pc in less than a week. In Wayanad, it bounced from 12 pc to 14.8 pc. But from January 25 onwards, there has been a dramatic downward trend of TPR either dipping drastically or remaining steady in nine districts. Kottayam, Wayanad and Pathanamthitta, which saw a TPR leap during the Jan 18-24 stretch, witnessed a marked lowering. Kottayam's fell from 14.1 to 13.3 pc.

Pathanamthitta found its TPR sliding from 13.7 pc to 12.8 pc. Wayanad's TPR fall was more dramatic than its rise last week. From 14.8 pc it fell to 10.9 pc, lower than even the Jan 11-17 stretch. The number of tests did not see any major change but still absolute numbers fell. Cases took a nosedive in 10 districts.

However, Alappuzha (8.7 pc), Kasaragod (4.8 pc), Kozhikode (2.3 pc) and Kollam (1.1 pc) saw an increase. But in Wayanad and Kottayam, the new cases decreased by 35.8 pc and 19.8 pc respectively. If there were 42,430 cases in the Jan 18-24 stretch, it fell to 38,900 in the Jan 25-31 stretch, a decrease of 8.3 pc.
