Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday (September 29) took suo motu cognisance against radical Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders and ordered a compensation of Rs 5 crore for the losses suffered in the strike in the state. PFI leaders will have to deposit this amount within 2 weeks. The court slammed the PFI, saying that the lives of ordinary citizens cannot be put in danger in this way.

The PFI announced a strike in the state on September 23 to protest against the NIA's action of arresting and raiding its leaders. The court of Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Mohammad Nias CP strongly condemned the strike. He said that the lives of citizens cannot be put at risk in a state like this. The court said that it is clear that if someone does this, he will have to bear the brunt.

The court said that you can protest and the constitution also allows it, but you cannot strike suddenly. The court had said in an order in the year 2019 that if someone calls for a strike without the process of public notice of 7 days, then it will be considered unconstitutional. The court had also said that the person or political party calling for such a strike will have to face adverse consequences as well.
