Gulmarg: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur today, February 10,  inaugurated the 3rd Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. 

The third edition of the Khelo India Winter Games will be held from February 10 to February 14. "The third edition of Khelo India Winter Games is being inaugurated at our Jammu & Kashmir's Gulmarg. Over 500 players from 29 states and union territories of the country have come Gulmarg.

Along with Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and senior members of the sports council and tourist department were present for the inauguration. A total of 1000 players from Jammu and Kashmir will compete in 11 games throughout the course of the five-day event.
Anurag Thakur said the following in reference to Khelo India initiatives by Prime Minister Narendra Modi: The Khelo India Winter Games are eagerly anticipated by the entire nation. Youth games, university games, and winter games are organised as part of the Khelo India programme. 

"As it is a suitable platform to showcase their talent, many young people are expressing an interest in participating in sports. A large number of youths are showing their interest in playing sports as they are getting a proper platform to show their talent. 

In 9 cities across Madhya Pradesh, youth games are taking place. The Khelo India University Games will take place in Uttar Pradesh during the next two months "Anurag Thakur, minister of state for sports.
The Khelo India Youth Games also provide a chance to discover promising potential. Top players are then identified and offered an opportunity at academic institutions recognised by Khelo India. The Indian government pays for their boarding and training costs." 

As Jammu and Kashmir has demonstrated its excellent sporting skils over the past two to three years, I want to congratulate the Jammu and Kashmir government for encouraging games in every district and equipping participants with sports equipment."
