Khelo India's budget may increase by 32.5 per cent

Buoyed by the success of the Tokyo Olympics, the government is going to give a further edge to its Khelo India campaign. That is why the General Budget for the year 2022-23 is not only going to increase the sports parts by 15 per cent, but also a huge 32.5 per cent increase in the Sports India campaign. In the General Budget for the year 2021-22, a total of Rs.1906.14 crore came in the sports portion, but this time the budget of the Sports Ministry has been proposed to the Finance Ministry at Rs.2254 crore. In this, the budget of Sports India alone can be increased from Rs.657 crore to Rs.974 crore.

Eyes on Olympics through Khelo India: The government is going to carry out preparations for The Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games through Khelo India itself. At the same time, it is going to organize a variety of academies and grand national level sports events in different age groups.   However, in last year's general budget, 657 crore was earmarked for Khelo India, which can be increased to Rs 869 crore in the revised budget. Now 974 are being kept for the coming year. An amount of Rs.50 crore is also going to be earmarked to promote sports in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sports University's budget will also increase: The budget of The National Dope Testing Agency has been increased from Rs 10 to 17 crore and that of NDTL from Rs 12 to 13 crore. The national sports development fund can also be budgeted at 25 to 16 crores. In this fund, private companies are also pouring in to support sports. The same amount has to be put to the Sports Ministry on its own behalf.   The budget for the national sports university running in Manipur has been increased from Rs 51 to 91 crore. The budget for cash award of sportspersons can be 38 to 40 crores. The budget of the proposed National Centre for Sports Science and Research can be increased from 10 to 7 crore.
