Pm Narendra Modi today unveiled a statue of Adi Shankaracharya at Kedarnath temple in Rudraprayag district. After being destroyed in the Uttarakhand floods of 2013, adi Shankaracharya's tomb was rebuilt. The same question in the minds of many people is what was the story of Adi Shankaracharya so let us tell you the interesting story related to Adi Guru Shankaracharya...Adi Shankaracharya has done a great job in propagating and preserving Hinduism. Guru Shankaracharya ji was born on Vaisakh Shukla Panchami in a Brahmin family in kaldi village of South Pradesh Kerala. They were short-lived. He gave up his body at the age of just 32. The Brahmin couple did not have any children even after many years of getting married.

The Brahmin couple worshipped Mahadev to have children. Pleased with his difficult penance, Mahadev appeared to him in a dream and asked him to ask for a boon. Thereafter, the Brahmin couple wished Mahadev a child who had a long life and spread his fame far and wide. Then Mahadev said that either your child can have longevity or the omniscient, the longevity will not be omniscient and if you want omniscient children, it will not be longevity. Then the Brahmin couple wished for an omniscient child instead of a long life as a boon. After giving the boon, Mahadev was born as a child to the Brahmin couple. The Brahmin couple named their son Shankar because of the boon. Shankaracharya was a talented child since childhood.

The father passed away when he was just three years old. At the age of three, he acquired knowledge of Malayalam. The story of Shankaracharya's retirement is quite unique. The boy Shankar was inclined to become a sannyasin. His mother was not allowing her only son to become a sannyasin. Then one day, when a crocodile caught Shankaracharyaji's leg on the banks of the river, taking advantage of this time, Shankaracharya ji said to his mother, "Mother, order me to retire, otherwise this crocodile will eat me." Fearing this, the mother immediately ordered him to be a sannyasin. Even though Adi Guru Shankaracharya was born in South India, his scope was the whole of India. He expanded the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta. In a view to preserve Hinduism, Adi Guru established four monasteries in all four corners of India. Which are still considered to be the holiest monasteries of sanatan dharma and are the major centres of faith.
