New Delhi:- As the 76th Independence Day is fast approaching, Kolkata General Post Office is preparing for 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan 2.0' by selling tricolor t-shirts for Rs 25 and spreading patriotic feelings among people. The Government of India, under the auspices of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)”, launched the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign last year.

The campaign was a huge success in 2022 when 23 million households lifted Tiranga into their homes and six million people uploaded selfies to the HGT website. This year, India Post is selling and facilitating the national flag through its 1.6 thousand post offices to celebrate the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, the government said earlier.

Bidhan Chandra Roy, General Manager of West Bengal, Sikkim and Circle of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Post, told ANI that this year they aim to surpass last year's target of selling around 4.5 thousand national flags. "In my circle area, West Bengal is our hub and focal point. Last year around 4.5 thousand flags were sold here.

This year we expect that number to increase. We are ready for this initiative. In rural areas of Sikkim, Andaman and Bengal, it is very difficult for people to buy flags. But this year we're going to try to bring the Habs to remote areas," said Roy.

He said that one can buy the national flag at the nearest post office and online through the post office website epostoffice.gov.in. Post offices also set up selfie spots to widely propagate the campaign.

As part of Har Ghar Tirangan Abhiyan 2.0, the government has announced that citizens can purchase national flags at the nearest post office at a nominal cost of Rs 25, the same as last year. This initiative aims to promote patriotism and national pride among citizens. People can set order flags by entering mobile number and one-time password. When placing an order, the necessary details such as name, address, mobile number and required number of flags will be requested.

A man buying a tri-color car at the GPO counter said it was his second time buying a Tiranga, which is the pride of the country. "Tiranga is our pride. Last year I also bought a flag from here and this year too. This is a very nice government initiative. This noble initiative is a reminder that India's tricolor flag is not just a piece of cloth, but represents the unity and diversity of the nation," he told ANI.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio program - Mann Ki Baat - also urged compatriots to continue the tradition of "Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan" this year.
