New Delhi: It is now possible to travel to southern India without interruption. The whole 740-kilometer Konkan Railway track, which passes through gorgeous coastal Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka landscapes, has been electrified. At Ratnagiri and Kumta railway stations, the railways no longer need to replace diesel locomotives with electric locomotives, which takes at least 30 minutes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Konkan Railway on reaching 100 percent electrification on Wednesday, calling the achievement a new milestone in sustainable development.

Because the Konkan Railway is one of the most important railway routes on the Indian railway network, train operations with electric traction will be phased in on the newly electrified Konkan Railway route."

In November 2015, the foundation stone for the electrification of the full 741 kilometre route work was laid. The project's overall cost is Rs 1,287 crore. Starting in March 2020, the CRS inspection of the entire Konkan Railway route was successfully completed in six parts. The last segment between Ratnagiri and Thivim was inspected by the CRS on March 24, 2022, and permission was granted on March 28.
