India's legendary hockey player and trainer, late Balbir Singh Sr., was remembered in an event at his home on Sunday. On this occasion, recitation of Sukhmani Sahib and the last Ardas were also done. During this time health related regulations related to covid-19 were followed. Singh passed away at the age of 97. About 15 close relatives of the late Balbir Singh Sr. attended it. The event was organized at the residence of his daughter Sushbir Kaur in Sector-36, Chandigarh. A statement was issued by the Punjab government on this matter.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) Chairman Thomas Bak, International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Dr. Narendra Batra, President of India Ramnath Kovind, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi sharing grief with family Condolence messages were sent. Senior Vice President and former DGP of Punjab Olympic Association Rajdeep Singh Gill, sports writer principal Saravan Singh, paid tribute to Balbir Singh Sr. while attending online.
On this occasion, Balbir Singh's family members and former IAS Officer Kulbir Singh Sidhu, longtime partner of Balbir Singh, Dr. Rajinder Kalra, Public Relations Officer Navdeep Singh Gill and family member of Balbir Singh, Dr. GS. Randhawa was also present. Kabir Singh, grandson of Balbir Singh Sr., thanked those who attended in private on this occasion and those who paid tribute from far and wide online.
